GES has reduced its relative carbon footprint by 37% in four years and has obtained for the second consecutive year the ‘Calculo y Reduzco’ double seal awarded by the Spanish Office for Climate Change under the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge. This accreditation is granted to those companies that calculate and register their volume of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions for a period of four years and accredit their reduction. With this certification, GES takes another step forward in its firm commitment with the environment, reducing the impact of its activity and contributing to the global effort against climate change and the sustainability of the planet.
Voluntary certification
The ‘Calculo y Reduzco’ seal is a voluntary accreditation that certifies the calculation of GHG emissions of companies over a period of four years and accredits their reduction at the end of this period. Specifically, GES has now obtained the seal with the data corresponding to the 2022/2021/2020 financial year compared to the previous three-year period 2021/2020/2019.
To qualify for this distinction, interested companies must calculate and register their carbon footprint with the model that MITECO makes available to companies for a minimum period of four years. During that time, interested companies must also demonstrate that their carbon footprint has been reduced over this period. In addition, they must have a plan to reduce their GHG emissions and their reduction commitment must be validated by the Ministry of Ecological Transition.
GES started working on the project in 2018 and for four years the Company has recorded, calculated and reduced the volume of its greenhouse gas emissions, which validates the double ‘Calculate and Reduce’ seal. In recent years, the company has achieved important milestones in terms of Sustainability, Health and Safety at Work, such as the publication of the Sustainability Report, obtaining the maximum A+ rating as a responsible supplier on the international ESG platform, Repro Achilles, among others, which put a perfect seal on an exceptional three-year period in which GES has celebrated 15 years certified in ISO 45001, 25 years certified in ISO 9001 and 20 years certified in ISO 14001.
In the words of José Luis García Donoso, CEO of GES “the achievement of these milestones is a further step in our commitment to the environment and climate change. Our achievements in sustainability distinguish us as a leading supplier in sustainability as well as a leading company in construction and renewable services for the wind and photovoltaic industry”.
