GES – Global Energy Services, a comprehensive provider of engineering, construction and asset management and operation services for renewable energy facilities, has created a new Services Division, integrating the Operation and Maintenance (O&M) and Wind Assembly business unit to respond to the market. The aim is to provide a greater transversality to some booming businesses such as repowering, major corrective works or the management of energy storage facilities using batteries (BESS). In fact, the latest agreements signed by GES with leading global players in the field of battery energy storage, such as MARS Renewables, demand the strengthening of the team.
The growth forecasts for the O&M market with the commissioning of an increasing number of wind farms and photovoltaic plants also contribute to this. The boost to the Services Division will also provide an opportunity to improve service levels to customers by consolidating their own specialised teams, investing in new technologies and making it easier to move crews to carry out mechanically complex operations.
To undertake this challenge, GES has appointed Roberto López Casasola (until now head of the O&M business unit) as Director of the Services Division. The team has also been reinforced with the promotion of Jorge Sánchez as head of Wind Installation, and the incorporation of Pedro Gil as head of Wind Operation and Maintenance since last December.
35% growth in O&M
The Operation and Maintenance business unit achieved the highest growth in 2024, with an overall increase of 35% compared to 2023 and revenues of 15.4 million euros. Specifically, GES secured contracts in 2024 to manage the operation and maintenance of a portfolio of renewable facilities with more than 4,650 MW in wind farms and 1,120 MW in photovoltaic plants.
Regarding the Wind Turbine Assembly business unit, GES installed more than 110 units generating more than 350 MW of power in 2024 and carried out operations in 6 countries: Spain, Italy, Egypt, Mexico, Germany and France. In France, in fact, GES was the leading wind installation company by volume of MW installed in 2024.
With regard to the forecasts for 2025 in these activities, GES expects to have a turnover of more than 33 million euros in its Services business unit, which would represent a growth of around 10%: around 16 million euros associated to O&M contracts and around 17 million euros to wind and photovoltaic installation contracts. The operation of this unit has an international scope and its main target markets include Spain, Italy, France, Portugal, Chile and Mexico.
Roberto López, head of the new Services business unit, explains: ‘This realignment responds to a changing market in which our clients – facility owners and the technologists themselves – are demanding more specialisation, technology, responsiveness and cost optimisation. I am convinced that with the new business unit we can exceed these expectations and have multi-skilled staff available to develop strategies for renewable asset management that serve the business interests of our clients’.
